Hi, I'm Amy

I’m an Author, Reader, and Teacher

I’m an author, a reader, and a creative writing  and literature teacher. I write contemporary and historical women’s fiction with romantic elements and a strong focus on family, friendship, and faith.

I can’t remember a time when books and stories were not a huge part of my life. The girl who lived for the Scholastic book flyer? A read-a-thon? Hold my milk. Yeah that was me.

If getting that Scholastic flyer (I can still smell it, right?) was the best day of school, the day those books actually came was the even better best day.  The stories those books would tell almost burned a hole in my desk waiting for me to rush home and read. And of course that’s exactly what I did.

My mom was an avid reader, so time reading seemed a noble thing. She let me circle as many of the books on that Scholastic flyer as I wanted, and she never made me stop reading to do well, anything. Reading was important. It was encouraged and praised.

Story was everywhere in my family. My grandmother used to tell me these fantastic stories about Hansel and Gretel–there were so many adventures they had that I had never read. I asked her one day what book they were from so that I could go to the library and check it out. She said to me, “Oh, sweetie, I’m just making these up off the top of my head. “WHAT! I realized in that moment (cut me some slack, I was a little kid) that anyone could make up stories. and write them down.

Fireworks!

One beautiful idea exploding into a gazillion more. I was now a girl with a goal. I was going to be a writer.  I took my diary (yeah, those ones with the locks from back in the day) and immediately started writing the amazing adventures of a little girl not to different from me.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve been fortunate enough to see my own books on the shelves of my beloved libraries and bookstores (places of sheer magic!). My day job is teaching literature and creative writing to young minds, encouraging them as they pursue their own goals of being writers. My best days of work are reading their stories and teaching them all the ins and outs of how to achieve their dreams. I’m fortunate to live a pretty bookish life. I even married a writer, of course.  I can’t wait to see what God has in store as I try to use the gifts He gave me the best I can!

Pictures from the journey

So here I am, out here living my bookish life. The book life is sometimes glamorous (me signing books in NYC!) and sometimes not so much (doing research and drinking coffee.) But it’s all fun and it’s all part of the journey! I love every minute of it.
